Right, Lizzie? Great to see you here on Carolyn's Sustack! Now is the time for you to celebrate all the work AND passion you are bringing to your debut!
Oh, my goodness, Carolyn. What I wrote this AM in my Morning Pages mirrors what you are sharing with us today! I am consciously taking a break from 2 PB projects that are going through revision AGAIN.
I am at that frustration point. So I'm picking up some watercolor brushes (I have no idea how to control the water flow from them...), and viewing a few tutorials before I make a beginner's mess. I cautioned myself to consider the time I spend learning to control watercolors as a good way to look at creative processes in general. I know this will in time fuel and feed my writing habits, too. I'll show you what happens in about two weeks.
I'm printing off your affirmation that every minute spent even on what might seem minute flows in to and informs the final piece! TY.
I'm so glad this spoke to you Kathy! I actually debated whether or not to write it. LOL. I've been "dabbling" with watercolors as well and find it so incredibly relaxing. I haven't picked up my brushes since the spring but have been watching A TON of tutorials. They are addicting! After reading your message, I might have to give it a try again--mess or not!
Carolyn, I am using the tobio kits as it has everything included, plus small mini canvases in a portable, unintimidating format! The tutorials I'm watching are from John Muir Law and this is is the 1st which I'm watching now. This is a WONDERFUL site. These tutorials are FREE! https://johnmuirlaws.com/how-to-paint-with-a-waterbrush-video/
I love your authenticity, Carolyn. I too find myself feeling like I wasted time if there isn’t tangible or visible progress made, but nothing is ever wasted. Even if I scrap it all, I learned something in the process. Creating characters takes time to get to know them, so it’s kind of like spending time with “friends.” Ha, ha!
Thank you for sharing about this & making this a conversation that helps us all feel “normal,” whatever normal is. 😁 I appreciate your thoughts.
Thank you Marci! I'm still trying to figure out what feels "normal" for me and don't think I've quite figured that out yet (HA!). But I'm so thankful for SO many others in the KidLit community who "get it."
Thank you for sharing this. It was a great time for me to hear it!
